The Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments and Museum was established as a provincial museum in 1952. The first exhibition was organized on May 1, 1955 and contained materials from history, ethnology and archaeology.

Within the scope of its research, the institute carried out archaeological excavations of the churches in Vodoča, Veljusa, “Fifteen Holy Martyrs of Tiveropol”, “Holy 40 Martyrs of Sevasti” – Bansko, Orta Mosque, Tsarevi Kuli, the Roman Baths in Bansko, “Machuk” and “Crveno Pole”. “, “Strana” near Angelci and many other objects.

NU Institute and Museum has published several books, catalogs, brochures and guides: “Collection of works” (1989), “Gallery of Icons” – catalog of the exhibition (2000), “Christianity in the culture and art of the Strumica diocese” (2002) , “Spiritual traditions of Tiveriopol” (2003), “Strumica cultural – historical heritage” (2005), “Collection of works”. The institution also has an exhibition space, a memorial – the house of Blagoj Jankov – Mucheto, the Old Turkish Post Office and the Gallery of Icons.

From January 1, 2005, the institution grew into a regional conservation center responsible for Strumica, Dojran, Valandovo, Bogdanci, Gevgelija and their surroundings. The object where the museum is located is included in the List of Cultural Heritage of Macedonia.
